Afterwards, she seems to stalk Alan for awhile, before finally moving back to Chicago.

Melissa Hughes Alan hires Melissa Hughes (played by Maris Coughlan) as his receptionist without interviewing her because she was pretty. Right away, Melissa tells Alan that she will not tolerate any sexual remarks. Soon, Alan starts having night terrors and hires Melissa to sleep next to him to make sure that he doesn't harm himself sleep walking. Although the two never have sex, Melissa soon falls for Alan when he helps her out with a financial dilema.

Irma Levine Alan meets Irma Levine (played by Lisa Vidal) when he represents a young girl who's father killed her mother, whom Irma was the guardian of at a shelter. Later, after meeting Irma for a date, Alan finds himself defending her when she is charged with a sex crime by protesting topless.

Tara Wilson Tara (played by Rhona Mitra) begins dating Alan shortly after his breakup with Sally. Before that, their flirtation started when Tara was originally a paralegal at Young, Berlutti and Frutt. Tara usually enjoyed Alan's antics but thought he went too far when he hired a group of men to beat up the man who punched him in a bar. Soon after a former lover of hers came to town. Tara was torn between the two of them and eventually broke it off with both of them realizing neither was right for her.

Lorraine Weller Lorraine Weller (played by Saffron Burrows) appears in the show in the fourth season when Alan has to try a case against her. She is Alan's ex girlfriend, and immediately after seeing each other in court, they have sex in the elevator. Shirley then hires Lorraine as an associate at Craine Pool & Shmidt, leaving Alan at a loss for words every time he sees her. He cannot keep his hands off her, and she seems to be the only woman in the show that has such a strong effect over Alan.

Samantha Fleming Samantha Fleming (played by Dana Delany) is Alan's old college crush. She asks Alan for help representing her husband Jack, who is running for Mayor, when a false rumor has been publicized about him. During the trial, Samantha finds out that her husband is having an affair, and runs to Alan for comfort.

Judge Gloria Weldon When Alan first meets Gloria (played by Gail O'Grady), he realizes that unlike the other women he lusts after, he does not want to merely sleep with her, but rather, he wants to have a relationship with her. However, as their relationship progresses, Gloria tells Alan that she wants to have a baby with him. This leads Alan to cheat on her with an ex girlfriend, and he leaves Gloria.
